Revamping Cruise Ship Interiors: The Success of Teppanyaki Restaurants Onboard
Last year our company undertook a comprehensive redesign of key areas. One of the standout features of this renovation was the introduction of Teppanyaki restaurants, which offer passengers a unique and immersive dining experience at sea.
As the cruise industry continues to evolve, providing guests with exceptional stores has become a critical factor in staying competitive. Aiming to elevate the time onboard, Savi focused on redesigning and modernizing interior spaces across multiple ships. To realize this project, SAVI not only developed the entire architectural projects, but also the specification of the materials used, the shops, as built and production drawings and the Fire Protection Plans shared and approved by the naval registers. Teppanyaki restaurants onboard cover a surface of about 180 square meters, and have the possibility of hosting up to 36 guests per time.
The combination of dining with entertainment is what makes Teppanyaki a one of a kind place. It is not just about food, it’s a culinary art. Thanks to SAVI’s capability to meet customers’ expectations, an interactive style of cooking is now present onboard many ships from different brands.
Teppanyaki was designed to be both functional and visually striking, with custom-built griddle plates (purchased directly from Japan, respecting the tradition and authenticity of the Teppanyaki culture) and seating arrangements that allow guests to interact directly with the chefs.
New catering equipment were provided. The furniture included 4 new Japanese cooking plates incorporated into 4 refrigerated counters, together with 4 new hoods served by a new exhaust air extraction and CO2 protection system.
Besides, further non-aesthetic activities were performed, as the demolition of the previous existing facilities and the reconstruction from new of floors, walls and ceilings; fire class A-60 perimeter compartmentation of the entire area was carried out, and both the electrical and hydraulic systems were converted, with the scope of improving efficiency onboard.
The installation of each restaurant took about 3 weeks and involved roughly 50 technicians.
From the lighting to the décor, the atmosphere was carefully curated, ensuring an authentic Japanese dining experience at sea.
The Teppanyakis are the real proof that interior renovation can truly enhance the time onboard, both in terms of aesthetics and functionality.
This trend is expected to continue, and we are ready to work to bring innovation wherever is needed.
